Caldew Viaduct [Dentonholme South]

On 1 May 1984 a Freightliner train split on the approaches to Carlisle station and the rear section was diverted on to the goods avoiding line where it derailed on the Caldew river bridge, partially destroying it. Twenty five years later the bridge remains were still extant.
