Chester-le-Street

There is a reason for the absence of trains and the blurred figure in orange: a young man had decided to walk off the end of the Chester-le-Street Up platform (shown) and head towards London. You often hear about such incidents, but rarely witness them. A combination of rail staff and police persuaded the man to return to a safe place; and to the railway's credit, train movements were back to normal in 40 minutes - just as it was going dark!
