Gretna Green

Located nine and a half miles north west of Carlisle on the former G&SW route, the single platform station at Gretna Green was opened in 1993 on what was then a long single track section between Gretna and Annan. The new station is pictured here on a cold and wet February day in 2006 looking in the Annan direction. Some 15 years later the line was redoubled, with the station receiving a second platform - see image 20209. Just off picture to the right is the site of the original (1848) station which closed in 1965. For a photograph taken on the same day showing both stations see image 6724.
