Charing

LMS 'Jubilee' Class 4-6-0 no. 45596 'Bahamas' receiving attention during a water and photo stop at Charing station, on the Maidstone East line, while in charge of The Railway Touring Company's 'The Kentish Belle' excursion from London Victoria to Faversham via Canterbury West, on 22nd July 2021. These locomotives were designed by Sir William Stanier specifically for passenger duties and 191 were constructed between 1934 and 1936 at the North British Locomotive Company's works in Glasgow and this was one of the first from 1934, originally numbered 5596 and named 'Bahamas' in 1935. Renumbered 45596 at Nationalisation in 1948. The unique double chimney was fitted in 1961 but she was withdrawn from service in 1966 and purchased from BR by the Bahamas Locomotive Society in the following year.
