Bowes

Looking west along part of the former Stainmore route in 2010, on the climb west from Barnard Castle, with the remains of Bowes station behind the camera. The line once continued straight ahead via a long demolished bridge over the A67. In todays much changed layout the road bridge top left carries the A66 'Bowes Bypass', which meets the A67 'off' ramp beyond the trees in the background. At this point the trackbed now becomes part of the A66 TransPennine trunk route. For a same day view back from alongside the A67 see image 28447.
