Sessay

Grab shot over the car, looking north easterly, of an unidentified Hitachi built 5-coach Bi-Mode EMU running on electric power on the up fast line south of Thirsk working the 13.43 ex Newcastle Transpennine Express service to Liverpool Lime Street on 24th March 2021. It will have to change over to diesel power in York for the run thereon through to Manchester; although, as of April 2021, electrification is currently being extended from Colton Junction to Church Fenton. Bridges were modified some 5+ years ago, as far as the latter station, before work was paused on the remainder of the un-electrified route, through Garforth to Osmondthorpe by Neville Hill TMD, and allow services to run on electric between York and Leeds stations; and the route through Leeds able to be used as a fully electrified diversion route for ECML workings over the section of line north of Doncaster to York.
