Dereham

Exterior of Dereham station, Mid Norfolk Railway, on 30th August 2016. Originally opened on 15th February 1847, it closed to passengers - amid much local opposition - on 6th October 1969 but survived as a coal depot until 12th September 1984. After that, there were plans to demolish the station and its vast site of sidings and cover it with a housing estate but the Mid Norfolk Railway Society had other ideas and the station was saved and reopened for heritage trains on 26th July 1997.
