Prestongrange Industrial Heritage Museum

Narrow gauge 9 ton capacity 'drop-bottom' mine cars on display at Prestongrange Industrial Heritage Museum, East Lothian, in 2005. These are the surface cars introduced on the Easthouses Tramway, linking Easthouses, Lingerwood and Lady Victoria, following replacement of the 'endless rope' haulage system shortly after nationalisation. Loaded cars were marshalled in rakes of 10 and taken to the preparation and disposal point at Lady Victoria using narrow gauge Hunslet diesel locomotives. One of the locomotives is exhibited at the National Mining Museum, Newtongrange. For a photograph of the cars in use see image 72286.
