Preston Riverside

Tablet exchange at Preston Riverside. The normal mode of operation at the Ribble Steam Railway is one loco, or two running top and tail. On gala days four or more can be in operation and those not on the train have to be 'locked in' to sidings and spurs to protect the main line. Visiting loco 'Brookes No.1' returns to the museum station on 28th September 2019 and the tablet and keys are handed to the driver of the Grant Ritchie 0-4-0ST so it can be released from the siding on the left. The knotted handkerchief, once common headgear for steam loco firemen, was a nice touch.
