Widnes

From opening in 1873 through to 1959, the present Widnes station was known as Farnworth (Widnes) after the village, which is now a suburb of the town. It then became Widnes North for ten years and then just plain Widnes in 1969 when Widnes Central closed. This running in board, embedded in the banking of the forecourt turning circle, is a reminder of those early days.
