Troon Harbour

The hulk of ex-French Navy 'Sirius' Class minesweeper 'Vega' (P707) photographed beached on the east (North Shore) side of the East Pier at Troon Harbour, 26 November, 1982. The partially demolished vessel had been deliberately beached by the Shipbreakers on that side of the pier in the usual way in preparation for final breaking but had been blown further ashore and slewed round during a recent storm. 'Vega' and her sister 'Sagittaire' (P743) had arrived at Troon under tow of the Frank Pierce tug, 'Pullwell Lima', 22 April, 1982 (other sources quote 01 April as the arrival date for both vessels) and they lay at the East Pier for several months before breaking started as there were other vessels being dealt with first.
