Ladybank

40060 takes the Perth route at Ladybank (North) Junction on 7th July 1978. The layout here was altered during October 1980 when the signalbox was abolished and colour light signalling installed.

When the junction was remodelled in 1980 one of the principal aims was to raise the speed limits for traffic entering and exiting the Perth route. The original crossover was on canted track which caused a severe restriction to southbound traffic. I cannot recall the previous speed limit but Up trains are now permitted to travel at 50mph. Previously Perth bound trains were all routed via the Down Branch loop and again speed was severely limited. Today Perth bound traffic is permitted through Ladybank at 70mph.
