Newcastle Central

Scene at the east end of Newcastle Central in the summer of 1961. The steam locomotive is A2 Pacific no 60514 Chamossaire. Beyond stands one of the South Tyneside electric units, displaying the legend 'South Shields - Stopping'. The South Shields route was converted to DMU operation two years later and now forms part of the Tyne and Wear Metro.
