Leicester Abbey Pumping Station

At last, the inspiration for the styling of the Class 70 is revealed. This Simplex loco was built in 1979 by Motor Rail of Bedford, and spent its working life holding its nose at the Minworth sewage works railway, near Sutton Coldfield. There is a similar loco in the Grain Store on the Statfold Barn railway see image 46848. It has a longer bonnet, but appears to share the unusual feature of having only one cab door, the other side being open to the elements.
