Newcastle Central

An interesting view of the west end of Newcastle Central, probably taken in the early 1960s, showing St Mary's Cathedral on Clayton Street in the background. The 1844 structure pre-dates Central station by 6 years. Meantime, the locomotive about to take out a train for the south is York shed's A1 Pacific no 60121 'Silurian'.
