South Pelaw Junction

Class 24s 5103+5110, both still in green livery, are digging into the start of the climb to Consett with a mid-day iron ore train from Tyne Dock on 30 September 1970. The initial grades from South Pelaw Junctionto Pelton were bad enough, with stretches at 1 in 58 and 1 in 47, but it got even worse further west with a length of 1 in 35 on the approach to Annfield Plain.
