Hotwells

Scaffolding surrounding an old railway tunnel in Bristol on the former branch from Sneyd Park Junction to Hotwells terminus located near the Clifton Suspension Bridge. The line was closed in 1922 and lifted shortly thereafter with the tunnel being put to other uses, not least as an air raid shelter during World War 2. The tunnel is now partially collapsed causing concerns regarding the stability of the cliff face and work is seen here in progress on 11 March in an effort to remedy the problem.
