Hawick [2nd]

Extract from the signalman's log at Hawick South box on the run up to Christmas 1968, with less than two weeks to go before final closure of the Waverley route. Note the signature of Gordon Hall, starting the nightshift at 22.00 on 23 December and going off duty at 06.00 on the morning of Christmas Eve. It was signalman Hall who swapped shifts on 5 January to be on duty to pull the signal for the last train but who, due to events beyond his control, was unable to do so, having instead to pass on verbal instructions to driver Fleming of Haymarket that night.
