Kirkham and Wesham

Sporting the locomotive equivalent of a black eye, EE Class 40 no 40133, of the split headcode variety, has the throttle wide open as it leaves Kirkham. The train, heading back towards Preston from Blackpool North, is a summer Saturday extra service on the August Bank Holiday weekend 1982. The scrubland to the right of the picture marks the path of the former slow lines.
