Scarborough

Of the 5 funiculars that once served the town of Scarborough only 2 remained operational in 2010. The most popular of these is the Central Tramway, a 71m long, standard gauge, 1 in 2 funicular, opened in 1881 by the Central Tramway Company and originally driven by steam (the system was converted to electrical operation in 1910). The lower station on Foreshore Road is seen here on 22 March 2010. For the upper station see image 26862.
