Wakefield Westgate

English Electric Type 4 Prototype DP2 exits Wakefield Westgate for Kings Cross in poor weather on what is believed to be 16 November 1963. The loco was severely damaged near Thirsk on 31 July 1967 after striking just derailed cement tank wagons at high speed, an accident which also caused fatalities in the coaches it was pulling, and was withdrawn shortly afterwards. The Class 50 was developed as a result of the successful trials with DP2.
