Horbury and Ossett

08574 growls eastwards though Horbury cutting towards Wakefield, with a short train of sand wagons from Healey Mills. Image 22029, taken from the same bridge, posed the question as to where this traffic was going. Bill Jamieson recalled a daily 08 trip working through Wakefield in 1980, sometimes with wagons to and from the repair shop in the old steam shed see image 23602, but Wynn Garnett, a former Healey Mills Yard shunter has been in touch to say it was a daily trip working to Redfern Glass at Monk Bretton and was always powered by a Class 08 shunter due to the small load. Wyn recalled that while the 08 was away the traffic in his section of the yard quickly began to build up. 08574 was withdrawn two years later and cut up at Swindon Works in 1986.
