Piershill

The former Abbeyhill loop diverged from the ECML just to the left at what is now called Powderhall Branch Junction. The first station was Piershill whose platforms started near the right hand edge of the picture. Although a line still survives here, running as far as Powderhall waste plant, no trace remains of Piershill station (closed 1964). A garage fills the gap of what was the start of the northern portion of Clockmill Lane which ran to meet the other (existing) part at London Road after skirting St Margaret's shed. All other traces of this too were swept away during the construction of Meadowbank stadium for the 1970 Commonwealth Games. Pictured on 3 June 2009.
