Crigglestone

A low winter sun illuminates no 56030 near Crigglestone station as it heads for Woolley Tunnel en route to Woolley Colliery with coal empties on a cold December morning in 1987, around the time the colliery was officially closed. Bordering on the districts of Barnsley and Wakefield, Woolley was one of the largest pits in West Yorkshire, employing approximately 2,000 men in 1980. 56030 was the last of the initial batch of loco's, built by Electroputere in Romania, before the UK build of the class started.
