Polmadie Shed

One of the 1958 MetroVick Co-Bo diesels stands at Polmadie c 1960 having worked in on the overnight Condor to Gushetfaulds. The nightly London - Glasgow container service was introduced in 1959 (its name having been derived from the words CONtainer Door to doOR) and was initially (and unfortunately) assigned to these particular locomotives. Notoriously unreliable from the outset, the Co-Bos were eventually consigned to Barrow shed where they ended their days on local passenger and freight duties until finally withdrawn in 1968 after only 10 years in traffic.
