Polmadie Shed

A4 Pacific 4498 'Sir Nigel Gresley', beautifully restored to LNER Garter Blue livery, at Polmadie on 19th May 1967. To the right is Clayton Type 1 D8523 and an EE Type 1 can just be seen behind the A4's tender. 'Sir Nigel' was due to haul a special to Aberdeen the next day. Perhaps it was thought that the open air would be a better bet for keeping the A4 clean than the inside of the shed, but there probably wasn’t much to choose between the two, as Polmadie no longer had any steam locomotives on its allocation. The only live steam on shed was Kingmoor Britannia 70027 'Rising Star'.
