NRM Shildon

King of the quayside! Former NER No 1 (BR class ES1 26500) at Shildon on 4 November 2007. The 600v DC dual-supply loco, along with twin 26501, operated the freight only branch linking Trafalgar yard with the Newcastle quayside. The sharply curved, steeply graded, single line branch, just over a mile long with much of it in tunnel, operated with a 3rd rail tunnel supply and O/H wires in the yards and sidings.
