This is an important large five platform station located where a number of long distance lines meet. The station is on the north bank of the River Severn and north east of the town centre. There are three through platforms (nos 3, 4, 7) on the lines to the north and an additional two bay platforms at the south end (nos 5, 6). The Tudor-styled station building was by Thomas Mainwaring Penson.
