Esperston Lime Works Railway

Introduction

This mineral line ran south from Fushiebridge [1st] to Esperston Quarry, a lime quarry and works. The line dropped in height close to the station via a reversing spur. There was a passing loop at Carlisle Wood and siding at Castleton.

Esperston Quarry was operated by Peter Mitchell & Sons Ltd. The company operated its own locomotives on both the line from Fushiebridge and the narrow gauge internal lines within the quarry, several of which were named 'Mountaineer'.
