This station bears no relation to the original London & Blackwall Railway 1840 terminus of that name, which closed in 1926 at the time of the General Strike and never reopened and has long since been demolished. 1/5

04/03/2023
David Bosher

Poplar

Docklands Light Railway

Like a Big Dipper at a funfair, this is a view from DLR unit 138, from Woolwich Arsenal to Bank, to the west of Blackwall station where the westbound and eastbound lines temporarily part company to allow same-level cross-platform interchange with the Stratford to Canary Wharf service at Poplar. My train is descending to serve the outer edge of the south side island at Poplar while trains heading east after calling at the outer edge of the north island soar high above the Stratford branch, giving a great view of Poplar depot. The line from Stratford via Bow Church to Canary Wharf serves the inner edges of the two islands. This view is on Saturday, 4th March 2023. 2/5

04/03/2023
David Bosher

Poplar

Docklands Light Railway

View from DLR unit 138, from Woolwich Arsenal to Bank, arriving at Poplar where interchange with the Stratford to Canary Wharf line is available, on Saturday, 4th March 2023. This station is more or less on the site of the old London & Blackwall Railway's Millwall Junction that closed in 1926. The original North London Railway Poplar station, that closed in 1944 after war damage, is where the DLR's All Saints station on the Stratford branch now stands. This is actually in the centre of Poplar and should, by rights, have retained that name. Other DLR station names are unfathomable too. In the background is the inclined viaduct, nicknamed 'the ski slope', that takes the Canary Wharf line over that to Bank and Tower Gateway. 3/5

04/03/2023
David Bosher

Canning Town

Docklands Light Railway

DLR unit 122 to Woolwich Arsenal, arriving at Canning Town low level, with bus station on right, on Saturday, 25th March 2023. This is also an interchange with the LU Jubilee Line and, combined with the bus station, makes this an important and extremely busy east London interchange. 4/5

25/03/2023
David Bosher

Stratford High Street

Docklands Light Railway

Brand new, but as yet not in service, DLR unit 201 at Stratford High Street while on test between there and Abbey Road, on Saturday, 1st April 2023. 5/5

01/04/2023
David Bosher
