I can, however, remember when it was open and staffed and buying a half price ticket here when I was a boy, only for the ticket clerk to bark: 'ow old are you, mate?' The exterior of the building was then adorned with British Railways London Midland Region signs all now vanished. The boundary between the London Midland and Eastern Regions was just to the east of here and all the stations from Harringay Stadium (now Harringay Green Lanes) to Barking had blue Eastern Region signs as opposed to the maroon of the London Midland as here at Crouch Hill and also Upper Holloway. 1/18

02/12/2010
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

172008, from Gospel Oak to Barking, approaching Crouch Hill station with a London Overground GOBLIN service on a snowy 2nd December 2010. This is my local station and I was glad to get home out of the cold. The scene has changed completely here now with the installation of the masts and overhead wires for the line's forthcoming electrification but as of January 2019, us north Londoners are STILL waiting for our electric trains, promised a year or more ago, with the 172 DMUs continuing to run indefinitely - and with a reduced service at weekends, too. 4/18

20/01/2013
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

In my photo of Crouch Hill station (Image number 67407) on the GOBLIN section of the London Overground, I stated that as of January 2019 us north Londoners were still waiting for our electric trains despite being promised them over a year earlier and then no later than December 2018. It is now February 2019 and electric trains are finally running but NOT with the bright new class 710 EMU's and NOT fulfilling the line's full service. There is still no confirmed date of when they will start operating on this route but, in the meantime and to avoid a total shutdown of the GOBLIN, TfL has drafted in some class 378s that have been used on the rest of the already electrified LO network since 2010. However, only three sets are to be used running alongside the class 172 units of which two have already been taken out of service for refurbishment ahead of their transfer to West Midlands Trains. If the 378s do not cover all the gaps in the GOBLIN service, there will be further reductions. A reduced service is currently already operating at weekends. At 12.11 on Wednesday, 13th February 2019, 378 232 arrives at Crouch Hill station with a Gospel Oak to Barking service. 5/18

13/02/2019
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

378232, drafted in by TfL to fill a gap in the London Overground GOBLIN service caused by the late arrival of the new 710 EMUs, departing from Crouch Hill station in north London with a service from Barking to Gospel Oak, on 13th February 2019. This is the train I travelled on from Crouch Hill to Wanstead Park in the morning and back home again to Crouch Hill in the evening, my first electric journeys on this line that I have known since I was a schoolboy more than half a century ago. The class 172 diesels continue to run alongside the 378s for the present until such time as the 710s takeover completely; in the meantime, it is a case of pot luck what turns up at a GOBLIN station when you go to catch a train. 6/18

13/02/2019
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

Brand new Aventra Class 710 269 with a London Overground GOBLIN service from Gospel Oak to Barking departing from my local station at Crouch Hill on 28th May 2019. I had no idea this was due, it just happened to come through within seconds of my arriving on the station so it was a mad rush to get my camera out to capture it. Sometimes, railway photography is all a matter of luck. 12/18

18/12/2019
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

Brand new 710 269 departing from Crouch Hill station with a truncated London Overground GOBLIN service from Gospel Oak to South Tottenham, on 3rd February 2020. Services are currently suspended between South Tottenham and Barking due to a freight train derailment between Walthamstow Queens Road and Leyton Midland Road stations that occurred at 6 a.m. on 23rd January 2020, which damaged two and a half miles of track. Network Rail has established that 39 new pieces of rail, each 126 metres long, will need to be installed along the affected section along with the replacement of 5,300 concrete sleepers, 900 wooden sleepers and 10,000 tonnes of ballast. Services are not expected to resume for several weeks; a replacement bus service is in operation between Walthamstow Central station (not actually on the GOBLIN) and Barking. Passengers between Walthamstow and South Tottenham have been advised to use the LUL Victoria Line between Walthamstow Central and Seven Sisters (close to South Tottenham) and which serves Blackhorse Road, another of the GOBLIN stations without a service at the moment. 13/18

03/02/2020
David Bosher

Crouch Hill

Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway

710269, with a London Overground GOBLIN service from Gospel Oak to Barking, calling at Crouch Hill station on 1st December 2020.
