Most of Blackpool's trams seem to be in garish advertising liveries these days so it was nice to see Balloon double deck car 723 in Corporation Green and Cream, albeit this is one of the modified trams with modern bus windows installed to replace the originals. It is seen here on driver training duty, complete with L plates, heading north from Blackpool passing the Imperial Hotel on the elevated stretch of promenade south of Gynn Square. A new tram stop was later constructed at this point as part of the refurbishment of the tramway. [See image 37614]

16 brand new Bombardier trams have been ordered for Blackpool and a new depot is to be built at Starr Gate to maintain them - although it looks like a sitting tenant will have to be evicted first. Rebuilt double-decker 724 is waiting to form a service to Fleetwood and will negotiate the tight turning circle before heading north again.Shortly after this photo was taken this section of line was closed to allow relaying and the construction of the new depot [See image 31269].
