An investigation into how a rail signal line was cut has been launched after passengers suffered "significant" journey disruption in east Scotland. Engineers have now fixed the fault, which affected a stretch of line between South Gyle, outside Edinburgh, and Markinch in Fife.

An Edinburgh service calls at South Gyle on 11 January 2019. South Gyle lost half of its daytime services when the new Edinburgh Gateway took them over in December 2016, but it was never very busy outhwith peak times. Strangely perhaps South Gyle is the terminus of two extended Borders Railway services in the morning, adding to Edinburgh^s meagre total of crossrail services.

This double arrow here refers to South Gyle station, but non-locals might be forgiven for thinking otherwise. Pinkhill staion closed on 1968, and Carrick Knowe (^rocky hillock^) has never had one.

68007 Valiant calls at South Gyle taking commuters home to Fife on 12/07/2017. I did my 14 years standing at this station, thank you very much. Alas, the loco-hauled trains went the wrong way round the circle for me. The pattern hasn^t changed.
