Markinch Interchange Underway

Date: 17/10/2006

A turf cutting ceremony attended by participating organisations took place at Markinch station on 16 October 2006 to mark the commencement of work on the provision of new interchange facilities. These will include a new station building incorporating passenger waiting facilities, extended platforms, bus turning circle, taxi rank, CCTV and electronic passenger info. The new facilities are due to come on stream by next July.

The ghost ticket office at Markinch, abandoned when the interchange building was opened 12 years ago, looks as well as could be expected. Surprisingly nobody has tried to convert this to a coffee shop, though the listed status may have something to do with this. Pity; I could have done the traybakes. A 4-car 158 calls at Markinch on 10 October 2018 with a Perth to Edinburgh service. The signage announcing this as the stop for Glenrothes went when Glenrothes with Thornton station opened. Markinch is however nearer the centre of the town and has better bus links, particularly since the transport hub opened.
