UK Railtours' excursion from Kings Cross on 7th April 2018 has just come off the freight only line from Morpeth, closed to passengers on 3rd April 1950, and has joined the also currently freight-only Ashington line passing the currently disused Bedlington station, closed with the line on 2nd November 1964. However, after years of talk and no action, funding for the long awaited reopening to passengers of the Ashington line was granted in January 2021 and will see Bedlington reopened - and not before time too. However, the project does not include reopening to passengers of the Morpeth to Bedlington line that this tour has just visited.
