Date: 27/03/2023

Whitley Bay Metro station has re-opened after emergency repairs to the canopy were completed. The station, a Grade II Listed structure, was back open for customers when Metro services began today, Monday 27 March. Nexus, Metros operator, needed to carry out repairs to the stations historic canopy after it was damaged during Storm Otto in February. Special netting has been installed beneath the glass panels, ahead of a £5.3m refurbishment project this summer.
