Eco-conscious haulage firm turns back time to reopen Leyland railway sidings for first time in 26 years [Lancashire Post]

A Lancashire haulage firm has wound back the hands of time by reopening a 70-year-old railhead. This week, Blackpool-based Fox Group - which specialises in the supply and haulage of aggregates - began their expansion into rail with the opening of a site in Leyland, part of a bid to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

One of the last freights to enter the Leyland Motors complex, a train of oil tankers, seen around 1981. The Class 47 is running round while the resident industrial Fowler diesel shunter lurks in the background. Although not used for thirty years the sidings are still in place and the Fowler was only removed a few years ago (into preservation on the proposed Poulton to Fleetwood line).
