Electrification of the railway from York to Leeds could lead to a public inquiry over level crossing closures [YorkMix]

North Yorkshire County Council has pledged it will do everything possible to avoid triggering a public inquiry over Network Rails £11bn upgrade and electrification of the York to Leeds line.

The authority has estimated if it feels duty bound to object to plans to close three level crossings in the Church Fenton area, south of Tadcaster, and replace them with a road bridge it would lead to a not inconsiderable delay of probably over a year for the scheme as it would trigger a public inquiry.
