Public views sought on reopening Fawley railway [Advertiser and Times]

Plans include building a brand new station at Hythe. A month-long consultation will kick off on proposals to reopen the Fawley railway to passenger services, including reopening Marchwood station and building a brand new one at Hythe.

Network Rail said it was engaging specialist suppliers to develop design options and engineers are carrying out investigations on the line.

UK Railtours excursion from Waterloo passing Marchwood station, on the Fawley branch in Hampshire, heading towards Fawley on 8th April 2017. The line and station closed to regular passenger traffic on 14th February 1966. Attempts to reopen the line to passengers as far as Hythe, which would include Marchwood, have so far not met with any success. (See recent news item.)
