When Billy Gilmartin was growing up in , everybody knew everybody. 'It was a great place, because everyone worked - most on the railways - and people looked out for each other' he says.

Fairburn 2-6-4T 42265, Standard Class 3 77007 and an unidentified Black 5 were present outside Cowlairs Works in the steaming siding and erecting shop siding during a school railway club visit in June 1964.
