Doon Valley Railway volunteers work hard to prepare for their open day [Cumnock Chronicle]

A small team of hard working volunteers have been making the most of the good weather and have been busy at Dunaskin.

The Scottish Industrial Railway Museum is operated by the Ayshire Railway Preservation Group and on 29 May 2011 former NCB Ayrshire Area No.10, an Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST, operated brake van trips up the headshunt from their station at Dunaskin. The line nearest the camera is the former line to Dalmellington and the currently mothballed Scottish Coal track to the Chalmerston loading point.

Inside the shed at the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group 40th Anniversary Open Day on 3 August. Seen here is the Ardrossan Shell Refinery Fireless locomotive No. 8 (Barclay 1952/1928) undergoing restoration. This was the last steam locomotive working commercially in Scotland. The Refinery closed in 1986. See image [[38050]]
