Network Rail changes tack on Forth Bridge Experience after receiving no bids for job [New Civil Engineer]

Date: 24/03/2022

Network Rail has been forced to change its approach for procuring a contractor for its Forth Bridge Experience, after its initial tendering round resulted in no relevant bids being accepted.

Similar to walks over Sydney's Harbour Bridge, The Forth Bridge Experience will allow visitors to walk across the iconic structure for the first time in its 132-year history. This will be via a newly-built discreet walkway atop the structure, giving views from 110m above sea level, with the participants requiring safety harnesses to protect against the high winds.

Network Rail has submitted a pre-application notice to City of Edinburgh Council for revised proposals to install a bridge walk and visitor hub at the iconic Forth Bridge. The revised proposals include a low-level reception hub to the east of the Forth Bridge, further away from neighbouring residential properties, minimising the impact on the surrounding environment.
