Community leaders get behind the Metro Flow project [Tyne and Wear Metro]

Date: 29/09/2021

Community leaders have welcomed a £100m track dualling scheme that will increase service frequency, reduce journey times, and improve reliability on the Tyne and Wear Metro.
The Metro Flow project will see an existing freight line upgraded and electrified in South Tyneside, making it capable of carrying Metro services, boosting the capacity for an extra 24,000 customer journeys every day.
Three sections of single track will be dualled between Pelaw and Bede Metro stations from September 2022.

Bede is the nearest station to the ruins of Jarrow Monastery, associated of course with the 'Venomous Bead', as he's called in 1066 and All That. It is also the station for the Barbour factory and retail outlet (aka shop). I can only afford knock-offs. Getting back to railways (if we must) fully staggered platforms are common around here. A South Shields train calls on 26 March 2019.
