Classic BR uniforms glimpsed at Ellon from the 12.25 Aberdeen-Fraserburgh train on Saturday 1st May 1965, with driver and secondman hanging out of the NBL Type 2 at the front (yes, a diesel locomotive). The Station Master - identified by the copious gold braid - is Alastair Farquhar, who hailed from Buckie. He had previously been based at lonely Riccarton Junction, and would face yet more change in five months' time when passenger trains were withdrawn from the Fraserburgh and Peterhead lines. The annual Railway Relay Race from Peterhead to Ellon took place on 6th August 2017. This is a minor road crossing and the remains of a bridge abutment half way between Auchnagatt and Ellon where the runners changed over.
