The son of a former owner of Ayrs crumbling Station Hotel has backed the campaign to save it. Andrew Melvin has revealed incredible stories of growing up in the hotel in the 1950s to campaigner Esther Clark who chairs the Ayr Station Hotel Community Action Group.

Swindon InterCity DMUs stabled at Ayr Townhead (the old name of the station) in autumn 1960 with the platforms on the left beyond the Station Hotel. These sidings are now the car park, today's Ayr Townhead depot is to the south of the station.
