Plans for a new Shields Ferry landing secure Government support [Tyne and Wear Metro]

Date: 06/08/2020

Exciting plans to build a new £8.8m ferry landing at North Shields Fish Quay have moved a step closer after the Government announced that funding was being made available.
The Department for Communities and Local Government confirmed yesterday that it was allocating £47m to the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) from its Get Building Fund for 18 major projects to boost the local economy.
The creation of a new Shields Ferry landing in the North Shields Fish Quay regeneration area was included in the announcement.
Nexus, the public body which owns and operates the cross-Tyne ferry service, will draw up a detailed business case to the LEP, for submission in September.
