Councillors have praised the stunning restoration of the historic Ballater Station but accepted that lessons must to be learned from the project. After a devastating blaze ripped through the building in May 2015, officers planned its rebirth, working with partners including Historic Environment Scotland and the Royal Household.

Almost burnt to the ground in May 2015, Ballater Railway Station has been rebuilt at at cost of around £3,000,000. Due to reopen soon and painted in the original colours. It was known as the Royal Station, as it was used by royalty from Queen Victoria (God bless Her!) onwards, when they stayed at Balmoral Castle. The line closed to passengers in February 1966.
