Edinburgh Waverley opens extended platform as electrification prep continues [RTM]

Preparation works for the Edinburgh to Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) will continue over the Christmas period with track improvements through Edinburgh Waverley station and Princes Street Gardens. Work on the extension of Waverleys platform 12 was completed this weekend, making it capable of accommodating eight-car Class 385 electric trains being introduced by ScotRail next year.

The EGIP extension to Platform 12 will mean demolishing the brick building in the background. The buffers will be at the foot of the current escalators which will be repositioned. Platform 12 is already closed in preparation and work is due to be completed in December. Photographed 05/03/2017.
