MetroWest rail upgrade initially excludes Ashton Gate station [BBC News]

A new railway station at Ashton Gate in Bristol has been ruled out of the first phase of a £58m investment in the area's rail infrastructure. The MetroWest Phase 1 project includes the reopening of the Bristol-to-Portishead line to passenger train services, by early 2019. An study found it would initially be cost-prohibitive to build the station, but it would feature in later plans

Some of us may remember a song by Adge Cutler : 'Pill, Pill, I love thee still'. Pill is a real place and also the local name for a tidal creek. Crossing this is a viaduct on the line from Bristol to Portishead. 82032 was hauling a train to Bristol in 1960. The branch lay dormant for many years, was later reopened as far as Portbury for freight and there is talk of passenger services once again.
