DRS orders more Vossloh locomotives [International Railway Journal]

BRITISH open-access operator Direct Rail Services (DRS) has awarded Vossloh a contract to supply 10 additional class 68 UKLight diesel-electric locomotives, taking its total fleet to 25 units.

The latest addition to the DRS fleet and first of the new Class 68 locomotives on a test run from Carlisle Kingmoor to Crewe on 4 February 2014. For this first trip out no 68002 was hauled by 90020 with eleven coaches, seen here passing Farington Curve Junction. The train returned to Carlisle later in the afternoon. [See image 46189]

DRS has recently started running a Class 68 on the Stobart containers. Shiny new 68005 Defiant crosses Slochd Viaduct with the southbound train on 30 July heading for Mossend.
